Snoop Dogg becomes Snoop Lion; Announces New Album
As one of the legends in the hip-hop game Snoop Dogg has done reinvented himself several times throughout his career.
This time Snoop Dogg decided go a different route announcing that his new album will be a full featured reggae album.
The title Reincarnated does not only have to do with the musical direction of the album, but his name as well as he has officially changed his name to Snoop Lion.
“It’s not Snoop Dogg on a Reggae track,” he said at an event held at Miss Lily’s in Manhattan.
“I want to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion. But I didn’t know that until I went to the temple. The high priest, when I walked in, he asked what is my name. I said, ‘Snoop Dogg.’ He said, ‘No more…You are the light. You are the Lion.’ From that moment on, I had started to understand why I was there. We hadn’t even recorded one song, but I was taking all of this information and spirit.”
Reincarnated will also be accompanied by a photo book, and a documentary which details Snoop Dogg’s evolution to Snoop Lion in Jamaica.
The documentary has been accepted into this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
He was recently banned from Norway for two years after being caught for carrying eight grams of marijuana in his luggage.
